Addis & Hill is a leading financial planning firm helping Pennsylvania teachers plan for their retirement. As NAPFA registered fee-only financial advisors we are not “selling” financial products. Our fee-only advisory services, called Lesson Planssm, is specifically designed for retiring teachers. We have only one mission, to help you make the best possible decisions for your retirement.

As a member of the Public School Employees’ Retirement System (PSERS) you are participating in one of the best public retirement programs in the nation offering substantial benefits. However, Pennsylvania teachers today who are still working and contributing to 403(b) plans must comply with the endorsed provider system in Pennsylvania, meaning you have to use one of the financial advisors prescribed by your school.

Fortunately, when it comes time to actually retire, you are free to choose an independent, fee-only advisor to help put all the pieces together. That’s where we come in.

Our Lesson Planssm service helps you sort through all your decisions: Public School Employees’ Retirement System (PSERS) options, Social Security filing, low-cost investing and everything you need to ensure a secure retirement. We encourage you to begin the planning process well in advance of your retirement date — a year or two is usually best.

PSERS cannot provide individual financial advice. They simply provide you with information about how the various options work and administer the paperwork. We help you apply the information you receive from PSERS to your own unique situation.

We encourage all our clients to attend the PSERS-sponsored general retirement meetings. When the time comes for the mandatory exit-counseling sessions, you’ll need to be ready to submit your retirement application and other supporting paperwork.

If you are prepared, the process will be a breeze. But unfortunately, many people go into those sessions having given no thought to their options with no idea how to reach their goals. Because the choices and decisions you make at that session are irrevocable, not being prepared can have a serious impact on your wealth and long term happiness.

Be ready. You’ve paid into the PSERS program for your entire career. Protect your investment and ensure your future with the Addis & Hill Lesson Planssm approach.

Addis & Hill has developed a unique planning system called Lesson Planssm to help teachers navigate through all the retirement planning pieces in a cohesive supportive way to help make smart retirement decisions.

When you have decided to start thinking about planning for retirement we can schedule an initial complimentary meeting which will give us an opportunity to get to know one another. If it appears that we can help you, we may charge a nominal fee to provide you with the comprehensive planning services you need to make important retirement decisions. We look at the PSERS lump-sum, the pension options, social security filings and much more. If you hire us beyond the initial planning arrangement to manage investments, we charge 1% per year on the amount of money we manage for you and any planning fees paid are reimbursed. This 1% fee covers ongoing financial planning services as well as investment management services.

Lesson Planssm offers a comprehensive yet simple approach designed to help you make smart retirement decisions.

The retirement system you participate in (PSERS) is unique. You want to make smart retirement decisions but you aren’t quite sure where to start. You want all facets of your plan to integrate together. And, the last thing you want to do is make a mistake after putting in all these years in the “system”!

Work with experts who can help you coordinate the various components of your plan in a cohesive way and in an environment free of conflicts of interest.

  • Should you rollover your lump-sum?
  • If so, how should it be invested?
  • What pension option is best for you and your family?
  • When should you file for social security benefits?

Each and every one of these decisions needs to be explored together as one, in order to make the best possible decisions. We call this process Lesson Planssm.

Workshops & Webinars

During retirement planning season (January through March of each year) we regularly conduct retirement planning workshops to help you begin to understand how the planning process works, what choices you will have from PSERS, and how to integrate all the components of your plan.
